Well Hormel and a few other sources commenting on Hormel products) recommend that their canned products be used by their "best by date" for best flavor. However, as long as the can and seal are properly maintained they have an indefinite shelf life.

Couldnt find anything on the single serve packets though.

That depends on where you are. If you have access to any other food, throw them out no matter what the expiration date. If you have no food and are miles from food, eat them, no matter what the expiration date.

what doesn't kill you makes you stronger....i like the option of "eat and report back". :-p I've eaten yogurt that had been refrigerated (read: stored correctly) but was 8 months past its expiration date. a little more watery than usual - but those cultures were deLISH. it was key lime flavor.

3 years over? Toss.

Now though what is neat is that freeze dried meals can be eaten after they expire...up to like a couple years past. But yeah, potted meat while I'd consider it a year after, 3 is pushing the happy line.
