You could possibly park in The Flume Visitor Center parking lot, and can walk the paved trail to Liberty Spring. Also, a little further up beyond The Flume is a parking area for the Trailhead and there's a dirt trail that connects to the paved path that connects to Liberty Spring Trail. As far as I know, that parking area is safe. I've left my vehicle there before.

The state police patrols the parking lots along the parkway pretty regularly. I have heard of no incidences at the actual AT parking north of the Flume, but it is a tad bit remote and a dead end so would be less likely to be patrolled than the next lot North which is the Basin. The distance from this lot to Liberty Springs trail is just about the same as from the the AT lot to the south via the bicycle path.
