Fatman and Ribbon Cords??

Can someone explain this to me - what is the concept with these and where did the name come from?
My MH bag has a "Fatman and Ribbon" type neck baffle, although the only manufacturer that has ever called it by that name - to my knowledge - is Kelty. I have never owned a Kelty bag. I am more familiar with Montbell, WM, and past experience with other Mountain Hardware bags - but those bags always had one shockcord in the neck baffle.

The purpose is to allow you to tell the difference by feel in the dark between the cord that closes the bag around your face from the one that snugs it around your shoulders and chest. I believe you're right. I think the design was by Kelty.
