Looking to get out for an overnighter this weekend. I live near the Jersey shore, so I would be leaving early am saturday to drive to trailhead. I am looking for suggestions for a loop hike ranging from 16mi to 20mi total. I do not need to stay in a shelter. I would like a water source though. I already have to carry some of my girlfriends gear, so carring extra water is not something I want to do unless I have to. We have already done Arden Valley road following the AT to Tatori lake then switching over to the LP to the first shelter. Then took the LP down to the parking area at Arden Valley Rd. We really enjoyed that hike.

A loop hike on the AT in New Jersey (or anywhere in NJ) sounds tough so I may not be of much help, but Sunfish Pond about 4-5 miles N of DWG is a pretty cool place to camp... plenty of water and a great place to relax. Maybe you can make it a loop hike with some of the adjacent side trails available around the DWGNRA:

Have fun!

I assume you've already done all the Pine Barrens trails close to home, yes? If not, don't rule them out. They are easy, fun hikes if you haven't done them.

There is a 27 mile loop not on the AT in PA that is a lot of fun. Check out Old Logger's Path at http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/hiking/logger.aspx. It's a bit of a drive though, about 4 hours from where I live. Doable in three days doing about 10 miles a day.
