sup ralph. i wear simple trail runners, whatever fits my foot. i've used a few different brands with success - north face, nike, vasque, montrails...

i personally like merino wool socks, regardless of season, either smartwool or darn tough

Barefoot for some, tall heavy boots for others.
Most are somewhere in between.

Wool socks with thin nylon liner sock inside assures no blisters.

Vasque Zepher II...Gortex liner smart wool socks....i know their a bit big...and my feet do get sweety some times....smart wool helps with that....but I like the ankle support...i have really bad knees that give out causing me to fall down spontanious on occasion so i value the extra support espically in the ankle

New Balance trailrunners and merino wool socks

I use the same setup, but only because I pack pretty light. I would not even think of this configuration if I was planning on carrying more than about 25# skin-out.
