has anyone tried the hennessey super shelter aftermarket doo-dads?
i have an asym and i love it, i just want to make it warmer. i saw that hennessey is now making an underpad and so forth. i was also thinking of using a big agnes horse thief(sans pad) with a jacksrbetter 'nest' or homemade under quilt. any advice?

all of the things you mentioned will work, you just need to figure out how much you want to spend and how cold you want to go. I think a 15*F bag or quilt and about a 3" pad under will work pretty well for cool season hiking on the AT. I use down because it compresses so well.

The pad will work if you stay on it. Besides comfort and warmth figure the bulk and weight of a 3 in pad. underquilts are a better answer.

Just to clarify the 3" pad comment. This would be a feather pad in an undershell, and not a 3" closed cell foam pad inside the hammock. For the HH, the quilt is more convenient than rigging an undershell.
