When a photo or a story's source is something like "a friend of my friend Amanda's best friend who was there when the picture was taken...." you know it's nonsense. If you look at urban legend sites like Snopes or Jan Brunvand's, you'll see the phrase "FOAF" (i.e. "Friend of a Friend") used very frequently, and when it appears, this is always a read flag that you're being lied to.
And that's the case here, too.
