The fall colors are about peak here in the Whites of NH and across northern New England. Come see 'em while they last, which might not be long with the unsettled weather we've been having and will continue to have for the next week or so.

Mt Washington got ice and snow yesterday and last night, the first significant snow of the season. When the clouds finally lift later today (if they do) I expect to see the summits of Adams and Madison will be snow covered. I could just see some of the trees at about 3000 feet through the bottom of the clouds this morning, and they were covered with ice.

Needless to say, its getting a bit nippy in the mornings lately! I hope the trailing edge of the northbound thru-hikers are getting close to the end!

Making snow is a fun job......I did it one season up here at Sunday River and I had a great time. You just ride the lifts all day and walk down the ski trails checking on your guns. The best part is that no body messes with you....and you ski free all season.

Killington and Pico got a dusting yesterday. Met 2 southbounders having breakfast at Inn at the Long Trail. Southbounders are a brave bunch.

Vermont's winter will be here soon!!!

Been in the low thirties at night in Jersey this week. The leaves are starting to turn here, I can only imagine they are well on their way up in New England!

Must have been the wet season. What's the eta for the leaves n Damascus? I want to bike within a few weeks.

When do they normally start to turn in your area?

I'm not exactly sure, but I'm a summer person and I can remember seeing signs in early August before. I'm headed to the park today, so I'll ask the ranger and report back.
I just checked the weather for Mt Mitchell, and the temps are mild.

When do they normally start to turn in your area? I just noticed that you are from FL. That's the #1 license plate during the peak. You may get a better answer from the Floridians.
The ranger said that our peak is at the end of October, with the peak in the elevations 2 weeks earlier. He did agree that the change was slower this year.
