Ward Leonard did not do 3.5 thru-hikes in one calendar year. He hiked the entire AT 3 times within 365-day period extending over two calendar years.

Mike Hanson, who is blind, is planning a thru-hike attempt next year with the aid of a gps. He is trying to raise funds and sponsors to do a video documentary of his hike and had to postpone his original plans from this year to next due to insufficient funds. My understanding is he changed his approach to fund raising and is starting to make progress. Here is his website: http://blindhiker.com/ and blog: http://blindhiker.wordpress.com/

"half" of a "thru" is an oxymoron.

in the 2008 edition of the thru hikers handbook the record for hiking the AT is 37 days 2 hours and 23 min by a nameless person..this is unveriefied and only a claim. i wonder who is claiming that time? [page 22]

Cesar & Maud currently (as far as i'm aware) hold the longest thru-hike record at 1 year and 23 days. They have a book about it, you can find it here: http://www.planetcesar.com/Appalachian_Trail_book/Appalachian_Trail_book.html

A false fact. A leftover from the Wingfoot days.
