considering I will be carrying more clothing as well as the bear cansister when I hike JMT, what size pack do I need. I am using a Golite Quest now at about 4,000 cu in. And it fits what I need for an AT 6 day hike in the summer without the extra stuff. No extra room in it.
The ULA Catalyst (http://www.ula-equipment.com/catalyst.asp) has 4600 cubic inches and is able to hold every bear canister on the market horizontally, excepting the Bearikade Expedition. An excellent pack, IMO. Brian and his crew are coming back from their autumn break early and will be shipping starting 1 November. They are already taking orders.

I use the Gregory Whitney 95 - it's a big one. Everything goes inside nicely including the large Bearikade Expedition bear canister. Not a light pack, but it fits me very well and now has three Muir Trails on it without a single problem.
