I purchased a Katadyn Hiker Microfilter from Bass Pro in June. Used it for 6 days came home cleaned and stored it. Used it for 3 days in Oct between Unicoi and Deep Creek Shelter. Top of handle broke off.I emailed Katadyn and did not hear a reply.Took it back to Bass Pro. They exchanged it no questions asked. I was very gratefull and will shop there again. I shop there often.Today I received a response from Katadyn, they advised they would send me a new replacement. I advised it had been replaced by Bass Pro and sent them the address. This is a very good product and it looks like they stand behind it.Way to go Bass Pro and Katadyn.

Nice to see two good companies standing by their products.

Push down on the part of the handle over the shaft. Also have something supporting the bottom of the filter unit (a log, a rock, the ground).

I've had to replace several parts and Katadyn has always sent me replacements no charge. I suppose they probably make a good profit on the replacement filters so fixing the pump is in their best interest. Really a great product and pumps a good volume of water.

Rambler's speaks the truth. I thought I'd be like Charlton Heston and yell "From my cold dead hands!" referring to my old water filter on this years thru hike. Then I tried Aqua Mira and never looked back. It was, by far, the best decision.

This won't break either, and you probably have the stuff lying around to make it happen:

Katadyn sent me replacement parts to Tuolumne Meadows while I was on the PCT. No charge, no hassle, no returning broken parts or even proving purchase. Great company.

I stopped using a filter after my PUR broke and the company basically told me to take a leap. I'm glad to hear you had a good experience with Katahdin.

aquamira also has a filter stick thats good for 50 gallons and screws on any water bottler and hydration packs. Stick directly in the water, use gravity drip also.

between the Frontier Pro stick filter and the drops..your covered...wt < 8oz

Same thing happened to me after only a few uses, handle broke off. Mine was the PRO model, replaced it with the regular Hiker and no problems.

Of course my old PUR Hiker worked for years and year and years like a charm.
