Although I do have a Paclite rain jacket ,when its torrential in preference to adding a trash bag I made short poncho out of an old umbrella top.
Carefully remove the stays simply cut in a hole for the head,neaten by a sewing.A fairly big one can be made out of a golf umbrella.
Blown out umbrellas are often seen thrown out.It can also be used as an extra bit of ground cloth at the entrance to a tarp or tent.
