For one person, who has a good appetite what is the best pot for use with a Pocket Rocket? Thanks! :sun

One that nests and you can put the canister inside and fit the rocket. Simply go to a EMS store grab the demo rocket & empty canister and walk over to the pots. dry test fit it.

I will admit I lucked out as REI had a combo when I purchased mine.

I use the GSI Soloist (http://www.gsioutdoors.com/detail.aspx?a=9&p=50141&) with a collapsible silicone Sea to Summit X-Mug (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/Sea%20To%20Summit%20X%20Bowl%20Lightweight), a 3.5oz Snow Peak Gigapower Isobutane / Propane Canister (http://www.rei.com/product/870049.htm) or a jetboil canister, The Pocket Rocket, a Bic Lighter and a slightly bent Snowpeak Titanium Spork (http://www.rei.com/product/660002).

All fits inside the soloist.

But mostly I boil water with it.

Well, MSR makes one that works perfect, but its rather expensive ($50-60). I've got the same GSI pot that is now part of the systems called soloist/dualist, and it works very well.

I have the REI version or what wise old owl posted. It works great, the ridges on the bottom of the pan grip real well to the pocket rocket. You can cook dogs and pancakes no problem, just watch how high you have the flame.

I used a SNowpeak titanium 900 for individual use. For my son and I, we went the step up to the bigger set.

I use the MSR duralite set with my pocket rocket. A big fuel canister, the pocket rocket, the pot holder, a bic lighter, a small salt and pepper shaker, a spork, a small container of oliver oil and a spork all fit within the biggest pot in that set - no joke.

played with one for awhile. didn't like curved bottom pots. they were easily toppled. flat bottomed pots sat very well.

MSR Titan Kettle, the perfect companion to the Pocket Rocket. It's what I used before I went with an alky stove and it's still a great combination.

Does anyone know of a small solo pot that has a lid that will double as a frying pan? I so want to be able to cook me up some pancakes every now and then...

I use the Vargo Ti-lite mug. It has a lid with strainer holes. I love it.

For several years now I've used the 1.5 liter "Accessory" pot that Jet Boil sells. It's probably bigger and heavier than some folks might want, but for cooking large meals, it's great, plus because of the unique design, it heats up VERY quickly. Plus, even tho it was obviously designed to work with a JB system, it works fine with other stoves including small canninster stoves.

thanks for all the good suggestions. I just did not want to do the legwork right now. Thanks Wise Old Owl, I bought one of the sets. Looks like it will work great no matter what stove I actually end up doing a thru hike with. Thanks again.

Yup I went to the basement and measured the cannister, I hope it works out for you.

I'll try it out when I receive it in the mail. Cold weather is pretty much here so it will be fun. Although its not REALLY cold, but will be soon. Thanks again for the heads up. That was a real steal for the money.

Just a heads up. I burned a batch of popcorn in an old MSR Sierra cookset because the edges of the bottom are lower than the middle and all the oil ended up there - made a burned mess, and the side trip off the trail to get it to share with friends was totally wasted.
Not that you'd want anything that heavy anyway, but I thought you would like to know one of the downsides of those (heat efficient concave bottom) pots. A wide pot will capture more heat than a narrow one, and sometimes the weight isn't really that much different between (in my case) an Evernew 1.3 liter pot with handles removed (no top), at 3.5 oz. and a Snow Peak 700 ml cup (handles but no top) at 3-1/8 oz. The cup stays at home, never used. I take the big pot every time - room for lots of food without spilling while stirring, and it holds everything I need, including some small packets of food, so there's really no wasted room. For a cup I've found that old Wyler's lemonade mix containers work well.

I don't know if the MSR Blacklight Gourmet set is the same, Tinker. But at any rate I don't plan on doing popcorn in it. Thanks for the info though. I had been thinking Titanium, but the alum is very light also and the price was such a bargain. So I feel I am set. Thanks again, Wise Old Owl.

I received the MSR Blacklite Gourmet Non-Stick aluminum Cookset in the mail today. Pretty impressive. I think on a thru-hike I would only use one of the pots. Maybe the lid, butmight use foil for that. Nice set. You gotta be careful with teflon. I plan on it. But a beauty of a set. Nice bag too.

Does anybody have an update on what pot they used for the pocket rocket?

I won't be 'cookin'.... All I need to do is boil water for those small bowls of instant mac-and-cheese and oatmeal bowls.

The only container I saw was a 12 inch tall blue 'coffee kettle' in the camping section of walmart........ and at academy sports I saw a small blue metal cup....... But Im guessing I need a lid on it to boil faster.

(I have been planning to buy a JetBoil flash, but at academy that is $89, but the pocket Rocket is only $39.... So Im trying to find a small pot or whatever, thats cheap, so I can justify the cheaper pocket rocket instead of the jetboil)

I hear oft mention of "Walmart Grease Pot." I don't generally shop at Walmart and cannot advise from first-hand experience with this item.

Fact is you may find what you need at someplace other than REI or EMS, and it will cost a fraction of what the fancy titanium stuff goes for.

Why not contact a local Scout Troop or two? They may have a smallish aluminum pot kicking around in their chuck box not being used. We always had one or two. Maybe for a $10-$15 donation to the Troop (maybe a gear trade or expertise trade of some kind), they would let you have it.

Check out the local Salvation Army, Goodwill, thrift stores as well. I've seen them there every now and then.

The OLD patrol mess kits had small pots that weren't used much. They had lids and a pour spout, plus a tab for a pot lifter.

The Cowboy Coffeepot!! Many a Scout's life has been saved by a hot cup of coffee (it distracts the adult contemplating strangulation)...

I now use the GSI Soloist pot and lid. I left the rest of the items that comes with it home. I recommend it and its size for one person. This is solely based upon my very own experience.

I use these two: Total cost 16 bucks:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ODH4O2/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use this for boiling water for Mountain House packages.
Instead for $39 for the pocket rocket, get a knockoff for $6. Mine works perfectly.

I have the pocket rocket and I use this: http://www.amazon.com/GSI-50139-Outdoors-Haluite-Minimalist/dp/B0037DD3RO/ref=sr_1_2?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1402941068&sr=1-2&keywords=gsi+halulite

It doubles as a mug so I don't have to carry one. I ditched the spoon and use a titanium one. If all you need to do is boil water this works great.
