Has anyone had a Shangri-La 3 tent? I'm thinking of purchasing one for my AT thru-hike. I almost bought an older used one on ebay, but someone else got it. Any thoughts, please post.

There is a very long thread at Outdoor Magic :

If you need all that room it does gives you plenty of pitching options and if you would carry a tarp and a tent why not. According to manufactures specs. without the pole (pressuming that you'll use treking poles for your support pole), the body + stakes will weigh about 33 oz. throw in a 37 oz. nest for the bugs your now pushing almost 4.5 lbs.
Not that I would try to swing anyone towards a hammock (which does have weight and space penalties when camping during cold weather) my 10X10 tarp, HH with stakes and ropes weighs in at 3.66 lbs.
I do have an SD Origami 2, (same idea as Shangri-La) I like this shelter for paddling offers plenty of room with all my gear, and it's a great place to cook meals when the weather is wet. The Origami is relegated to shoulder season paddling when it's to cold for me to hammock and the biting insects are hibernating.

I've been checking out SD origami2 and it seems ok. I really want a simple teepee style tent. I wish I could get that half nest!

I've got one, works well in wind, seems small due to the steeply sloping walls. Way too heavy if you have to add the bug net. Lots of better choices at Tarptent.
