Where in the SNP would be the best place to watch the Nov 17 Meteor shower?

Hawksbill Mtn hike is a short uphill to a 4,051ft. summit and there's a shelter there in case of inclement weather.
It's only 0.9 of a mile from the parking lot at milepost 46.7

What's the best time to see the meteor showers?

The Leonids appear to emanate from the constellation Leo which rises in the east about midnight. So you'll have to wait until after midnight. The meteor shower itself is suppose to start around Nov 13, peak Nov 17 and end Nov 21.

What are the rules about camping up on Hawksbill?

No camping zone. Shelter is for day use only meaning no overnight stays.

Will you be toting along a telescope ? Thats was my reasoning on this location. If you want to camp out the AT is back down the trail from the summit where camping is allowed.

No I wasn't planning on bringing a telescope. I was hoping to just lie back in my sleeping bag and watch the sky.

You don't need a telescope, in fact, its better seen without a telescope.

I remember seeing the Leonids back around 2000 or so and it was amazing. Woke my wife and daughter up at 4AM and we saw hundreds of meteors.

I doubt it will be like that this year, but you just never know.
