Given how fast this stuff absorbs water, I could see it helping dry wet socks. You take the wet socks, roll them in the sham wow, squeeze, and almost all the water is absorbed straight into the sham stuff. Wring out the shammy and move on.

Has anyone tried this? Would it actually work?

I've been thinking of getting one of these too and I remembered a thread a while back about it:

Here's some other thoughts from another thread that got me thinking about getting something like this yesterday.

I use something like the Sham Wow, it's called a Aqua Dry swim towel. Works pretty good and only weighs 3.5 oz.

I use a Shamwows of sorts. It's great for washing my underwear. Hear me out:

I use underarmor undies for chafing. At the end of the day, i'll get into a light pair of shorts, wash my undies in what water I've got, then roll them up in a shamwow. "Wring" it and it absorbs most of the water, which I wring out... repeat repeat.

I also keep another shamwow for my dishes. I try not to mix up which one does what.

I dropped my shamwow in a stream once - now it's a drywash......

All kidding aside take your wet socks wrap them in the shammy and it should dry them out... somewhat.

Shamwow used here cut into quaters I'll carry two quarters with me one is used for dishes the other for personal needs and drying off the fly if it's needed. Shamwow seems to work better when it's dampened first.

I keep seeing the original ShamWow in my local WalMart for just under $20. I think the box has
4- 20x24 inch of the heavier weight and 4 of the 15x15 inch size.

Remember it's a towel, chamois, and sponge all in one! How can you go wrong!

The towels like Shamwow are available all over the net for a fraction of the cost of the overly-marketed Shamwow, and just as good. it's not rocket science.

I have one of the smaller Sham Wows, I cut 1/3 off, then cut that 1/3 in half, the 2/3 piece is my camp towel, one of the 1/6 pieces is a wash cloth for face & surrounding, the other 1/6 (with the words Sham Wow on it for easier Identification) is for,,,, my nether regions & is kept in a separate zip lock in another zip lock.

They all 3 seem to do the job, & as stated are very light.

One of the last items the wife and I put in our packs for a 3.5 day in March starting at the approach trail was a generic version from Wal-Mart. After two solid days of rain we did not regret it.

The first night on Springer it rained and apparently the Tarptent was not seam sealed well enough by your truly and with the Dog myself and my wife the condensation was horrible to boot.

Our down bags got soaked on the outside and the sham-wally did great.. patted the bags and everything else and put them in the pack. When we pulled them out they were as good as new..

Also used it for the tent everymornig for condensation. This way I didnt have to wait for a wet tent to dry in the sun and we were out at daybreak..

Great Idea.. dont leave now without one.

Ohh yeah and we also dried our dog off with it after the rain and wraped him in a synthetic sleeping bag.. Dry as a bone in the morning.

I think my favorite thing about the Sham Wow is not so much how much water (Moisture) it holds, but how completely you can wring it out. And, It will absorb Olive oil, (about 1 teaspoon) even when already damp with water.

What are some generic versions of Sham-Wow? I've got one of those green pack towels made by Therm-a-Rest, bought it several years ago. Is that the same thing?

I've been buying the same thing as the sham-wow's at flea markets for years $1-$2 each. All they've done is put thm in a box and stareed to re-market them, just go tto a flea marketand get the same thing a whole lot cheaper.

LMAO!!

anyway i have a walmart version of the shamwow. only weighs 2oz. but being it that i'm 5'11 290 pounds, theres a lot of surface area to dry off and this thing does the trick. best 4 bucks i've ever spent.

Package says: "as seen on TV...www.theoriginalshammy.com...holds 21x its weight in liquid...guaranteed to work...commercial grade 1...heavy duty...20"x13.5"...German design...made in PRC (China)"

Use what you save to buy some beef jerky at the same store. :D
