After revisiting an earlier thread concerning packing out toilet paper in baggies because of issues surrounding biodegradability I researched the idea.

I found an ultragreen toilet paper thats biodegradable and compostable making it the most eco friendly tp on the market.
It's made from 80% sugar cane fiber.

The company is Wheatware and they make other biodegradable things such as bowls and plates.

Quite interesting I think.

Has anyone used this product either on the trail or off the trail ?

Never tried it- I take seventh generation toilet paper (100% recycled) hiking. If I saw this in a store though, I'd give it a try.

I think the ultra green is probably lots more biodegradable.

Sugar cane fiber is cellulose, standard toiler paper is cellulose therefore they will biodegrade at about the same rate at a given weight of product. Buy it if you want, but I expect you are paying a big premium to be perceved as "green". I am not sure on the fiber quality of sugar cane but paper fiber can be pretty strong so a wood based toilet paper sheet may be stronger so it can be thinner. The trade off is that most paper is made with recycled fiber which is less strong. Most customers want thick fluffy sheets so thats what most paper companies make.

A former employer used to make tissue products and occasionally we would do "government runs" for the military. It was tough to make as they wanted maximum sheet count per roll, which meant a very thin sheet with no softness, which was completely opposite of consumer grades. When one of those rolls were dropped, they bounced ;)

As I recall, it's with the camping//hunting/RVing stuff. A white-and-green flat plastic "travel" container. They might even have portable toilets there, I think.

Here are photos of the package. The back shows that after 21 days, this stuff is totally brown and bio-degraded. Made by Wausau Paper. Here's the URL from the package--

It's made from 80% sugar cane fiber.

Gives a whole new meaning to the Southern phrase "Sugar Butt".

Walmart? havn't seen it, I will look again.

For what it's worth, I was in the local Super Walmart this week here in Nashville and double-checked. Sure enough, it was right there with the hiking stuff. The same package I put photos of in my earlier post.

I am in Oregon.

I tried searching Walmart online.

If I could find this product online, I would put a link on my website.

Maybe I will have to make my website a store, after all. edit: ecostuffonline (http://ecostuffonline.com/eco_select_products.htm)

Thank you, sarcasm!

Wait, are you thanking me, or just the concept of sarcasm in general?
