They are 5 oz. And will be heavier than that when the cartridge is soaked. So it depends if your a gram weenie or not. Very clever and cheap concept though

Aquamira upsets my stomach. I filter, I do not like the weight but it works best for me

I know someone who uses this and it's a filter not a chemical treatment.
Another, possibly better option, would be their Frontier Pro 2 filter attached to a soda bottle. The frontier pro 2 can work as a gravity filter as well. Jason Klass has a good article on his blog:

I found the Frontier Pro 2 on sale on the web for $16 and it works great screwed onto a platypus or soda bottle.

As brooklyn says, this is a mechanical filter, not a chemical treatment. And as Bags states, it is heavy relative to other solutions.

It's my primary treatment. Cheap, reliable, practically unscrewupable. Filters are easy to get at Campmor. 5 ounces for a bottle and filter is a tough combination to beat. Fill it up at a stream crossing and drink right away.

In the summer 10 refills of the 22oz bottles a day would give you less than a month. Some other brand bottle filters can clog all of a sudden which causes users to carry a backup and then many other filters would be lighter.
