Well over 5" fell last night. Awoke this morning to a world of heavy white. Trees bent over weighted down. Helped to have an incredible blue sky to boot. We are 16 miles from Lehigh gap as the crow flies, so I am sure there was also close to the same amount on the trail....
Given our recent freeze thaw patterns in the last decade, creepers may be di'rigueur... (OK, OK....fancy talk for "don't forget 'em....")

Some snow down south also; I heard it snowed in Blairsville, Ga. the other day.

Maybe more like 4 here with most of it still in place. I'm thinking I would be having more fun were I to hop into my truck and drive to Christmas at Joanna (http://www.haycreek.org/christmas_at_joanna.htm). I could still make it were I to go like now!

Had enough of a dusting to coat the yard last night. And the 19 degree temps resulted in a layer of ice on my fish pond which I broke with the hammer this morning.

Coldest night so far tonight. Just about an inch on the ground.

We got a dusting up here at Grassy Gap (Suches) on Saturday morning. First snow to stick for the season. Made for a very pretty hike.

It's been winter here in Montana since late September.

I guess the number of people doing a thru-hike in 2010 to increase awareness of Global Warming will be, umm, down.

Snow??? OH, YEAH!!!

Not much in town (Reading), but I was up at the Bake Oven Knob Shelter yesterday delivering a re-handled broom and a new register. I've been working a lot of 10 and 12 hour days at my job, so I decided to bail out early and arrived at the quarry below the shelter (the owner and his son are friends of mine - and the trail's) around 3:30 and walked in - an inch of snow, but still coming down. Met 2 women who were staying the night, exchanged pleasantries, and left. Made it back to the truck by 4:30 - 2 inches of snow on the ground....

I SLID DOWN THE ROAD AT 2 MPH OR LESS, NEARLY HITTING AN ON-COMING TRUCK, AND ENDING UP IN THE (SHALLOW) DITCH TWICE!!! No damage to anything except my pride, but I haven't had a ride like THAT in years. And the women? They were parked at Rt. 309 - they must have had quite a trip re-crossing the Knife Edge today!

Got about 4 inches or so in Virginia. Attached a photo of Devil's Marbleyard in the snow.

Great trip but it was cold!

Just back from Joanna Furnace not long ago and wishing Blissful were there to see it. I'm sure she would have enjoyed walking in the snow on the old iron plantation and visiting with reenactors in period dress.

Probably. Most folks don't seem to recognize that season to season, and location to location, variations have nothing to do with whether global warming is true or not.

BTW midcoast Maine had a couple of light dustings of snow in November. But Sunday produced the first serious snow cover. I awoke to five inches of heavy wet snow on my driveway and with my lawn tractor blocking access to the guy that keeps me plowed out.

Today has a distinctly winter feel. Hazy sun, ice on the edges of the tidal marsh, subfreezing temperatures. But we had an unseasonally warm November with temperatures in the 50s and low 60s most days.

Snow has fallen several times in the mountains, but far less than most years by this date. Ski areas are in a funk over the lack of snow and warm temperatures that prevent them from making their own.

In billions of years of weather, which we have no access to the history of, and not to mention all the uncertainties of the science. Yet, we see certain changes and we conclude GW.

And why is it when someone that uses an example of a weather event to question GW gets jumped on by believers, yet when there's a flood in Atlanta the weatherman on TWC sees it as proof beyond any doubt that this is GW effect.

My best guess is that the weatherman has no knowledge of the science of the issue.

Not much more than a dusting here in Wyoming, but temps this morning was -12. Went hiking yesterday with temps around zero and 20mph winds. No hiking today, the pickup is DEAD!

I predict the weather will get colder over the next few months where the United States will see periods of snow, ice and sleet. After that, I predict, we will see the weather slowly begin to rise.

Nice pics, people. Gimme more. Carless in Philly, I need all the vicarious thrills I can get.

Yeah we were expecting a "cold" front too - instead my Saturday morning long run (14miles) started at 5AM - 82F and 90% humidity - I about died :(
Felt Like I was slowly wasting away the whole run. Weekend before it was 47 - beautiful run! I guess karma evens out?!?

Oh yeah - Miami in the winter, psychotic!

I was out for a few hours yesterday also. I parked at a friend's who lives very near the AT just North of 501. My destination was a small body of water I could see on google earth just northwest of hertlein campsite. Where the AT makes a hard right to go out to round head, I turned left and followed the old AT. I used a GPS to find the pond, using coordinates from google earth.

As of Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, there were six to eight inches in Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive closed for the time being. We expect a possible ice event overnight tonight, Tuesday.

A few more inches game down last night (I'm in Lewisburg). Looks like forecast is for more snow on Thursday. I hope the snow sticks until Saturday when I plan to hike Gillespie Point.

Got an e-mail advisory from Accuweather at work today warning of the potential for a big storm this weekend, though they think it will likely stay south, between Roanoke and Richmond. Also said long range models show a possible big snow in the mid atlantic states around Christmas day.
