I have not been on the AT since the early 80's.

I am driving to central Ga for xmas with the folks, and would like to hit the trail for 3-4 days and test some of my new gear, before I get into a thru hike.

I plan to drive up to springer or there abouts, would like to hike for a few days, and be able to catch a shuttle or something back to my car. Either that or visa versa, IE start north and end up at springer.

Probably around the 15-20th

Any advise would be helpful.

Springer to Neels Gap is a nice 3 day hike. Alternatively there's a parking lots near Neels Gap (Byron Reece Parking lot) and you can catch a shuttle to Springer (or AFSP) then hike back to your car.

Drive to Mountain Crossings Outfitter at Neel Gap. Get a shuttle to Springer and hike north to your car at Mountain Crossings. Decent three-day walk. If they are available, staff at Mountain Crossings will do the shuttle for a reasonable fee.

Park at the approach trail at the state park, hike to Springer & spend night 1. Hike the AT to around the Hawk Mt shelter, spend night 2 there. Hike the At back to 3 forks & take the BMT back to Springer, & either spend the night or hike the access trail back to your car.

Consider the Standing Indian (NC) loop; no shuttle needed.
