How quickly does your nose freeze up and fall off when the wind chill is -46.9 degrees?

Fortunately, it's not very windy right now (46 mph), but the wind has recently been over 100 mph with temps around -10F. http://www.mountwashington.org/weather/conditions.php
And I'm having furnace problems this week :(

Spent 10 years wintering up there, sometimes -30 in the valley at night, sometimes 45 in the bowl in January, sometimes wind chills -70ish. Never too cold for my clothing and spirit

at first glance the -9 didn't look too bad, it was -10 for a good portion of my hiking last week... then i saw the wind chill, I think I'll pass on that tonight,, haha good luck to whoever may be out there!!

Cold is when you can toss the glass of warm water up in the air and all of it turns to steam and nothing hits the ground. Water has to be warm or don't throw it straight up, just a bit of advice I learned the hard way.

I worked on the summit at the Weather Observatory for 4 winters and never got frostbite. If you dress properly and use common sense there will be no problems.

It's not the cold that gets you, IT'S THE WIND!

Toasty 1 degree in Berlin right now - nearly noon. The wet snow we got last week is pretty crunchy now.

Hope I don't need to go outside today!

Not in New Brunswick. It is a Maritime thing.

Git out there. Take a deep breath.
Wind has calmed down here.

Was vile this AM.

Was looking at the Mt Washington site and noticed that one of the cameras is now pointing mostly at the sky. Think the wind may have something to do with it? Tight iso bars on the map yesterday so 24hr wind peak over 100.

Wind speed when I checked was 70 mph and visibility was 70 miles.

Why don't they just report that visibility is one hour?

visibility was 130 miles from the top of the rock pile (Mt Washington) today.
Don't think i've ever seen that visibility distance before . Can't see that far anyhow with these eyes.
Cold enough though, highest temp in days here today...15*w/o windchill factored. had a -8* this AM, throw another log on the fire !

Looks fabulous at this moment. Sunny, low wind, not too crazy cold.
We'll see how long it lasts.
