I was looking at one of the online maps of the trail and noticed that a seasonal dirt road that I walk my dog on almost every night showed up but was labled as "appalachian trail". This makes sence to me as because in Walking with Spring Earl said that he walked past the homes of Governer Dewey as well as Lowell Thomas. This road would have been logical road connecting these two estates.

I am wondering which would be the best place to start looking into the old route that the AT took in this area, the local trail club or the ATC? Are there any websites that anyone knows that has current as well as past routes all on one map?

See if you can borrow an old ATC guide from your local library.

While that may work we are talking of a span 60 years from Earls walk to today. I don't think that they have that many old guides. If I could narrow down the time fram it would help.

Ask NYNJTC when they moved the A.T. to determine which guide you should consult. If an email doesn't suffice, a telephone call or two ought to turn up the information you seek.
