What started as a plan early in the week for 6+ of the Iron MT clan to run a 20 mile point to point ending up on the far side of Whitetop Mt.,
ended up with one other runner and I doing different loops out of Damascus -which happen to be short on electricity.

A third runner showed up later to x-c ski but we missed him.
While some snow would have been the perfect touch, we got about 8" in the valley and I think our planned start and end points ended up with 16".
I ended up slogging out the standard 8 mile loop from Dot's to Straight Branch on the AT and Iron Mt trails, Eric made his loop about 12-13.

we followed a sole set of prints for about a mile into the wood before they tuned back.
Eric wore a set of spike attachments for his shoes, but said they started causing his shoe to eat the skin off his heels,
so he ended up carrying them most of the way he said.

snow-ladden mountain Ivy, rhododendron, pine, and hemlock engulfed the trail in many...

Well, southern snow is pretty rare, especially of this quality, but being its the holidays, year-end inventory clearance, and what not.
Let's say an even $9 a ton
-plus shipping -which shouldn't be much since this is a light dry snow and weighs practically nutin'.

What a Christmas Gift!!!!! That trip looks like it was breathtaking - the pictures certainly remind me of that magnificently quiet hush upon all the land when the snow is thick in the air and trees. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing the photos.... :D

Reminds me of a time I took a load up to Washingto in Febuary...I was early so I stopped at one of my favorite stops, Northbend, Wa..Snow was every where..It was so cool.. I parked in the most furthest parking spot, knowing it would stay empty..Ehen I got out of the truck, the air was so cold and quiet you could cut it with a knife.. Very beautifull.. I havn't seen anything like that since and sometimes wished I could see it again..The mountains were gorgeous..The crunch of the snow under my feet, The taste and smell of the air..

These pictures took me back to that...I can almost feel it
