I have a Nimbus Meridian but am wanting to go a bit lighter. Should I sell of my pack and go with a SMD Traveller or a ULA Catalyst or should I just stay with my Nimbus. I know it will probably last longer but Im going for the lightest I can get.

OK, put my name on your EMAIL list if you decide to sell it then. Email ME before you post it here for the rest of the 'tards.

I am a bit of a Granite Gear pack freak and I think I want a meridian. That is the Latitude with a top lid, right?

yea. Will do. I really like it but I may want to go lighter. BUT with going lighter I lose some of the durability.
You will be the first to know

A Catalyst is huge. Have you looked at the Circuit, or something like a Gossamer Gear Mariposa?

Borrow my ULA Circuit (it's chaco-sized) and put your stuff in and see what you think. The catalyst is too much pack for anyone who hikes like you and has a brain.

I agree with Johnny T.

(that rhymed).

I loved my Gearskin, but there were a few things I would have changed and couldn't figure out how to do it. Then I looked at 6 Moons and ULA. My wife has a 6 Moons and a friend has the ULA. So I tried my gear in both and ended up going ULA. They had the Circut in Hot Springs and I just drove up and got it fitted instead of having to mail order.

What should you do...well, let's look at this from the outside. Your goal is to lighten the load a bit, right? Say, the difference between your current pack (lidless) and one of the two packs you mentioned. Off the top of my head that's probably about 8 or 9 ounces, right? How much money are you going to have to spend assuming you can sell the current pack to Bulldawg for a reasonable amount? Is that money worth the weight difference or could it be best used elsewhere? I think you've got all the lightest stuff besides the pack but who knows?

Ummm...I was going to talk to you about this today since we are supposed to be MAKING BEER RIGHT NOW!!!!! Also, I might have a connection for you to speak directly to the GSMNP hiring dude for the ridgerunner gig. You'll have to do some creative tracking down of some people we know...but, it's worth it.

I gotta agree. The Circuit was the perfect size for me.

If you like your meridian and just want to save some weight, why not try the Vapor Trail - all the same features, but a bit smaller and without the tepex framesheet.

Sorry... I really didn't have anything funny to add.

Chaco...as soon as you left I added the hops. Warrior hops was cool. But that chinook stuff is off the hook. It smells like I'm making boyb pasta in here.

(I'm growing that Chinook stuff this Spring)
