View Full Version : Another How far can I hike?
Last summer I hiked from Amicalola Falls State Park to Neels Gap (3 days, averaging ~ 13 miles/day). This summer I am planning to continue my NOBO AT section hike and started my planning. My question is if I hike 7 full days starting from Neels Gap (Walasi-Yi Inn) what is a reasonable distance (trail head)I can get to?

I'm no expert on that area but have been down there and sectioned some. I'd guess you could make Winding Stair Gap in 7 days from Neel's Gap. Unicoi Gap is two days, another 3 days to Deep Gap then two days to Rock Gap or Winding Stair Gap area.

Yes, Winding Stair Gap/US Rt. 64 is 77 miles from Neel Gap so you should be able to get there in 7 full days. If you need a shuttle, contact Ron Haven in Franklin; he's a WBer and owns motels in Franklin.

Either end at Winding Stair Gap, mile 107 or Nanatahala Outdoor Center which is about 28 miles further, great section as well!
