Fife, maybe... It'll irritae the hell out of anyone after about 30 seconds though... I hiked with a guy who carried a ukelele- and could actually play it! Pretty sweet.

this would be my moment to suggest you look at carrying a flea ukulele, available from http://www.fleamarketmusic.com -- manufactured in CT! The flea plays quite wonderfully, and isn't particularly moisture sensitive since the body is plastic. They once offered to modify the neck to reduce the weight for gram weenies... give em a call! I wish everyone (else) carried one -- so I could borrow them on the trail!

Nice, but I wouldn't buy a $200 uke for the trail... more like a $10 one...

My sister carries a travel guitar or ukulele with her on her hiking/trekking adventures. I've never learned how to play but some nights I wish I did and love listening to others play

You have to....., no you must carry your fife! Wonder how the shelter mice will react to it?

yes, they are pretty good, definitely workable -- but still the friction type. they either have or will soon have geared tuners available. as i'm sure you know -- they are way better.

True Donde!

And hey, if everyone got a different instrument, we could allget together an orchestra!
So far we have Ukelele, Fife, Harmonicas, Digeridoo, and all of Warrgy's numerous instruments...

Tin whistle & PVC flute. My repertory is somewhat limited tho.
I'm going to try to hit a long section hike NOBO from Atkins to ???? around June / July, so maybe,,,,,,,,

In addition to my fife, I will be carrying (in a secret compartment in my brain) my imitations of John Cleese and dialogue from Fawlty Towers and Monty Python. Other BBC shows soon to come.

These are all made in a small shop about 1/2 mile from where I grew up. Great quality, my brother has two.

Aside from that, please take a look at other threads that have to do with guitars on the trail. Not everyone likes your music as much as you do. Sorta like preaching about religion, or smoking in a shelter.
