So, I am finishing up a midnight shift and looking forward to going home and celebrating with my wife and six (yes, 6!) kids.

Needless to say there's not a lot of room under the tree for dear old Dad, so I will have to live vicariously through all of you.

Let's hear it. What good gear or other stuff did you get that has gotten you really fired up to hit the trail??

Merry Christmas!

Awesome stuff!

Beware!

Most of these gifts, especially the AT Guide, are known to cause raging bouts of Springer Fever!

Mountain Hardware Phantom 45. Stuff sack is attached to one of the drawstrings, and it's so small we overlooked it! Winton's new book. And a big, three bladed Case pocketknife (assuming I don't put anything else in my pocket) that'll be perfect if I ever need to cut down trees to build a cabin out there! (I love knives, it's a great one)

The girlfriend and I are bit broke right now (being in job hunting mode tends to do that for me...working for the county for her and the big, HA!, govt salary for her) so no outdoor goodies.

However, we both love the outdoors and it is exciting to share some of my favorite places with her (she skis!)..and that is a better gift than I've had in a long time.

(The man known as Dad sent me an Amazon gift card so who knows...)

Montbell UL Vest and Micro Spikes just in time to head down into Pa in about 3 weeks. Got to love the Parents and In-laws. Neither one really gets the whole hiking thing but they are will to buy me gear to help me run away into the woods. It's either because they love me or they just want me to go away? Who cares which it is it works for me.:banana

My wife acquired a piece of bark from her folks property, painted a white blaze on it, and framed it in a deep set frame. It's hanging in my bedroom right next to my AT strip map!

what a FANTASTIC idea!

oh yeah, I got a 4-piece fly rod/reel from my parents and, although I don't know if you can call it a "hiking gift", my girlfriend got me a soprano ukulele that I plan on taking on dayhikes and weekenders from time to time :D

This was a really good Christmas for me-- not because of the gifts recieved, but because I got to spend it with a LOT of my family. That was, as cliche as it sounds and is, a TON more important than any gift given.

great idea to the thread starter!

That sounds amazing! I would love to have one. If you can convince your wife to make more I would gladly purchase it from her. Im sure I am not the only person on WhiteBlaze who would like to have one. It might be a way for her to make a little extra money that she could spend on YOU!

This had to be my first Christmas without a single gift (my wife and I agreed with my mom and son that times are too tight right now).
We had a Christmas dinner together at my mom's best friend's house.
That was enough. :)

I had a great Christmas with the family and that is what was important to me. My sister gave me a great compass and she and my niece gave me several pairs of socks and liners, some Mountain House meals. My niece also gave me a combo survival whistle, match safe and compass, which she picked out all by herself. They knew that I was back to backpacking and figured that I had all the gear that I needed so they were trying to give me things that I would regularly replace. Dad gave me all the trail maps for Virginia. They did great.

My niece also gave me 100 rounds of 5.56mm ammo (God Bless her! at 6 she knows about that stuff:banana). My dad also gave me the rifle scope that I have been saving up for, for the AR target rifle I built.
