Hello all.

Planning a section hike from Rockfish Gap to Catawba in Virginia. Are the facilities at "It's a Wonderful Life Camp Ground" Open thru mid Oct.? It's located East of Buchanan Va. on Rt. 618.
This looks like a good place to resupply for me, but I need to know if I can get the basic food stuff there and if they will still be open????

Help Please!

I mailed a food cache there for pickup last October 21 (see Post #3 of this trip report (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2957)). They didn't have much in the way of food for purchase given that it was the off-season. I would plan to be opportunistic in augmenting your food cache, but not depend on them having anything.

I was going to stay at one of their cabins for the night, but it just wasn't very attractive, even though I had pre-paid. I got to Jennings Creek and the road around noon and not a single car passed me on my way there, but there were a number of cars passing through in both directions later in the afternoon.

This is a great section. I missed out on any view from Humpback Rocks, but some of my best sights ever at Tar Jacket Ridge, Cold Mountain, Lynchburg Reservoir, James River Gorge, Carvins Cove, and of course McAfee Knob and Dragon's Tooth. I've posted a number of pictures on my gallery here (http://www.whiteblaze.net/gallery/showgallery.php/cat/500/ppuser/3). Enjoy!

Thanks I will mail another package there to get to Catawba. I'll call the camp ground to get their address. I will not stay in the cabins. They sound pretty nasty. Really looking forward to this trip. If thinks go well i will be seriously considering a thru hike next spring. NOBO.
