Clothing Question

I am going to be on the trail from May 15 to about the first week in August. I am starting at Springer and going North.

My question is: Do I need more protection than a pair of thermals and pants for my legs? I have a poncho, but do i need rain pants or chaps? Should I expect cold rain and cold wind, or should I expect wind and rain but for me to be hot enough that it is a welcome relief?

It's hard to say. I've experienced a morning in the 30s in July once in the southern Appalachians. I would assume a set of long pants and top thermals should do it. I would probably bring some rain pants and see how you do. If you don't use them by Davenport Gap you could probably send them home.
