i own both the golite pinnacle 3700 cubic inches and the osprey ariel 65 4400 cubic inches. there are good and not so good to both packs, my question is which one do you think is best suited for a Thru hike. The golite is 1lb 7oz and the osprey 4lbs 8 ozs. My pack weight will be under 40lbs hopefully closer to 32-35 lbs.

My main concern is the durability of the go lite pack

Based on my Pinnacle, 32-35 is too much weight. Knock about 10# out, and you're golden. Of course, you'll probably have a pack that is too big at that point.

If a pack leaves NY going 60 mh and another pack leaves LA going 55 mph, how long til they are hiking the CDT. . . . ?

If you're worried about durability, how about putting some McNett seam grip on the seams right now to prevent pull thru's, and then bringing a seam grip field repair kit with you? Adding a couple ounces to your pack could save you a couple pounds.

Get your gear together and worry about the pack last.

What fun is that? Buy a ton of gear, and several packs. Work thru all the combinations, then sell some of it and buy more stuff. Spoilsport....
