Hi folks,

I'm pretty new to backpacking. Been to the Boundary Waters 3 times and now for weeklong trips but looking to take up backpacking. A buddy of mine went to UT and we've been batting around the idea of doing a 3-4 day section of the trail then pulling out on Friday and hitting up a UT football game on Saturday. We're in Chicago so we'd probably split Monday, start hiking on Tuesday. Can anyone give me some good entry and exit points near Knoxville that would fit this scenario. Something like 5-6 miles a day would probably be about right. If needed, we could push it harder. Just trying to plan ahead so we don't get ourselves into something we can't get through over that timeframe.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Comments about UT football would be best for another thread. :)

Thanks!

There are all kinds of loops to hike in the Smokies, perfect for what your looking for. You can actually go to their website and look at a trail map. nps.gov/grsm.
