I am trying to decide what size pack i need to get for trips lasting a week or so.All depends on how much gear you're carrying and how much it all weighs.

Hooch makes a good point. 3800-4000 cu in is a good range for starters. Go to an outfitter with your stuff and see what works best for you under load.
