I just was going through the gallery pics of 'Other Trails', in particular the Florida Trail and noticed a picture from the Florida Hiking Festival. Is this a yearly event??? If so, when for 2010? And what is the event like? Thanks, as I'm new to Florida and this sounds like it could be a great time!

Top,
I have been to the conferences...I guess now they are calling it the Festival...which is more suited than calling it a conference.
It is a blast. Lots of things to do, vendors, trips and lots and lots of hikers...
Try it at least once.

Clyde Butcher is scheduled to appear. I met him in Key West. His photography is really, really good. He specializes in the Everglades if I remember right.

I went last year and I was about the youngest one there. It is really a fundraiser for the FTA. I did enjoy meeting Richard Judy. Not going this year.

I have seen lots of age ranges and they have vendors and all kinds of things to do. Lots of learning booths for the kids too.
I am sure the FTA does raise money from this event, however, it is not their main purpose of having it.
It gets bigger each year.

Umm, Florida has places to hike? Aren't there alligators and creepy crawly snakes down there? Are there any hills? Don't the hurricanes blow trees over the trail all the time? Isn't it hot or does everyone just hike naked to beat the heat?

Once you've seen one palmetto stand, you've seen 'em all.

We were going to enforce the no clothing rule, but New Zealand beat us to it: http://www.smh.com.au/travel/nude-travel-holidays-with-cheek-20100310-pyge.html :sun
