You may not find a lot of packrafters on this site. It seems to be more of a western pastime. I've read a decent bit about it on BackpackingLight.com. While the magazine is subscription, their forums are free, and you could probably get more folks with actual experience. Ryan Jordan, the editor at BPL, packrafts fairly often.

alpacka's are the way to go for rafts. I've been eying the Yukon for some trips up to Alaska.

I'd agree with bearpaw about it being a western thing. I'd be all for it if It were more viable in the east. I'm either going hiking, or I'm going kayaking. Rarely mix the two. Skurka however is a mad man. I didn't know they grew em like that in massachusets.

That Alpaca raft is an Alaskan invention. Those glacial fed rivers in AK can get hairy, and can't always be safely crossed without some kind of boat. Plus, being able to float on the calmer stretches makes a lot of longer trips possible. The BPL guys say there aren't many places to really use a packraft in the US. They posted about a trip in ID where they used one.
