Not sure the date for Shelter Leopard other than it's a Feb start but I do know that Take this Bread is planning a Feb 15th start if all go according to plan.
I don't know Shlep, but I have hiked with Takethisbread he was a wild man (fast). Coming from Frito Bandito!!! the guy who LOVES Grape soda. If you see Takethisbread get him a Orange Soda say it came from Frito Bandito and he will know who.:D
Still a Feb 25th start for me (Gadget) NOBO on the approach trail, but from originally planning a solo start, my small posse is growing ... Lucky's CDT partner Lumbar is joining us.
Both these guys know the AT pretty well, so for as long as we end up sticking together I can probably get lazy about any sort of on-trail planning ... :-)
I had a change to February 21st. Hope to see you all on the trail.

With the weather that we are having in the south this year, all you early starters will be earning your mileage. Keep in mind that some of the biggest storms hit in March. Be prepared and stay alert, it can be surprising how fast the weather turns bad.
I meet a couple of young people from Ohio once, they had started on March 1, and they suffered by being unprepared. They said " hey, we looked at the map and Georgia is right next to Florida, who knew that it got cold down here!" These guys were hiking in cut off blue jeans and t-shirts. Other hikers were giving them clothing, because they felt sorry for them. They both quit before getting to Virginia.
ATTENTION ALL HIKERS; it gets cold in the south!

I could tell it would be a long day when Digger was on his 3rd bag of Fritos by lunch time!
the trail is approx. 2100 miles or 6300 bags of Fritos all depends on how you want to measure it.:D

Keep an eye out for the blazes everyone. With so much snow, the actual footpath may not be visible, so stay focused on the blazes...turn around often to see the blazes going in the other direction, also...

I dropped Shlep off near the Springer Mountain parking lot off FS 42 last weekend, I say near because I could not make it all the way. The road was in very bad shape and snow covered in spots. I imagine much of the trail is snow covered as well. Good luck to all!

In the big ATL right now. Fixing to be on 400 heading north to hotel in Dahlonega. Rain or shine tomorrow!

As of today, it's showers till Sunday clearing Monday and Tuesday, more rain starting on St. Paddy's day on Wednesday.

I am set to start on April 10, 2010. Single woman. Hopefully I will find a buddy to hitch with to towns to re-supply.
Fly to Atlanta April 9th and stay at Hiker Hostel then start April 10th also. Coming up quick.:)

I didn't get time to pm you, but I had to delay start date from Apr 5 to Apr 10th. some last minute personal biz to attend to here at home. definitely will be driving up to amicalola falls on Apr 9th and start Apr 10th. guess I'll be seeing RWK on the trail!

My start date was pushed back from the Apr 1st to Apr 3rd, a few equipment issues held me from having my sister drive me on Wednesday to Amicola. Im holed up at Alabama University hanging with her till she is free from classes and has time on saturday to bring me over. It is kinda nice to have some more time to check out this great campus. Slightly delayed but Im stoked to get started!

Don't forget that sunscreen. Go slow on FS42 if that is where you are beginning your hike. Also hike slowly or at least low mileage days until you are conditioned to walking all day, every day. . .

New Start Date. Thursday 4/22/2010 from Rte 220 Daleville VA Nobo for Kent CT. First Leg of Cool Breeze Hike. 2nd Leg is Katahdin SOBO for Kent CT. 3rd Leg is RTE 220 SOBO to Dicks Creek. Already done with GA.
