I made these yesterday and had not been able to do further testing.

We need to come up with a name for this new stove size. Help me out:)

It was mkmangolds idea and he furnished the material.

I really like these stoves and I happen to have a few of those aluminum beer bottles laying abound that I still need to use. How did you make them?

I realize that has probably been discussed somewhere else, but I have searched around and cannot find anything other than a demonstration of them working.

not to dis mangold.... but

aren't these still considered super stoves? therefore "Venom Super Stove" seems appropriate. How much do you think the slightly wider design will change efficiency, etc.? I wouldn't think much if any.

Basically the bottle is inverted through the use of a die and a press, or a die and lathe. There are several ways to do it.

As much as I hate to say this, he sells his stuff cheap enough that unless you already have a shop with these things in it, just buy one from em and be done. If you have your own tools, get out there and play around.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

I had the thought of keeping the name inline with the already established theme of "snakes" The 3 different bottles that I've made into stoves have names like: "Black Mamba", "Killer Taipan" and "Mojave Rattler"

Many of us are familiar with the "Timber Rattler" snake.

How about "MKTimber Rattler" - "Mangold Rattler" - "Mangold SS" - "Mangold Mamba"

I think it best to keep the name Super Stove away from this stove. Reason being.........confusion in ordering a stove.

I have to get back to my testing:o

I need to get you some numbers and facts.

Zelph... how much for these stoves?

mister krabs

Zelph, the mouth of the venom bottles are thick walled, does the thickness taper off at the neck, or is the whole bottle that thick?

zelph

Zelph... how much for these stoves?

Don't know yet.....would you believe 2 bottles cost me $4.98,,,gulp!!!! at the local Mobil gas station. The only place I've found it for sale.

mister krabs, the thickness tapers off to .017 thick. Mountain dew measures in at .016

My wife came home early and was not able to do optimum condition testing. I did a few in the garage but it's way to humid out there today. Condensation coming off the pot like crazy hindering the tests. Garage temp and water were at 30 degrees.

Stove holds 1 ounce of fuel. My die also works well with "Snapple" energy drink bottles. I formed one with the die. I have about a dozen bottles that I will make into Cobalt stoves that will have a fuel capacity of 4 ounces of fuel. Some folks might think on that. We see threads that indicate the only way to cook for 2 is with canister stoves. The new Cobalt will have the larger diameter base and a feature that will make it totally resistant to pots of cold water being placed on it. When I get a good source of Venom bottles I'll make the new Cobalt with those also. New things on the horizon. Why make a Cobalt with the new size bottles????? Larger footprint for stability, more fuel capacity for "cooking for two", melting snow for bath water:cool: there are folks out there that like flaming jets:)

It's too funny cuz I'm totally humbled by all of this! I like "Mangold Mamba" the best.
Now, let's work on getting some of them off to Haiti to sterilize water and cook food. Zelph: as soon as you have 5 done, I'll buy them and get them over there and pay for postage. Anyone willing to match me on this?

Zelph: thanks so much. The most prevalent fuel is ethanol. The stoves will be going with my mom's church group. When, I don't know yet. Anyone else want to donate stoves, let Zelph know. I'll be headed down to Illinois to do an "in-service" to the church members when I get them.

Don't retire the StarLyte, alternate with the Mangold Mamba....it fits inside the Mamba:).....both have the fuel absorbing feature;)

Take it along and let a neighbor use it. You know! the ones that use canister stoves and can't get them to work. Or the ones that chose to use wood and it's raining.

Is the Mamba the same as the bud stove, if not, what is the difference and performance. I saw where u had a few left for sale and would like to buy one at $13. Where do I send the money if it is basically the same as the bud stove.

thanks

Yes, same design as the original budlyte super stove just a larger diameter bottle and is .001 thicker aluminum than the Mountain Dew bottle.

PM me for paypal and money order info. Thank you Loneoak

I have been to Haiti a number of times to help and they don't use electricity. We have brought many solar lights. The stoves they use are fueled with the tons of cardboard. We have however developed solar ovens. I'm not sure if alcohol stoves would work there but, it's a good thought.

Thank you for your service there. Such a devastating natural disaster to have happened, so sad.

This type of wick stove will burn isopropl91 alcohol very well. It will leave some soot on the bottom of the pot but a lot less than cardboard. If iso91 is available there I will donate 2 dozen stoves to be shipped there or to your address for when you return.

Thanks again for your service.:)

Mangold Mamba also known as Venom Super Stove :-)

I made a small modification to it, made it fit perfect into the recessed bottom of a Foster's pot. Really makes for a stable fit and centers the pot precisely.

That is what I like about the Fancee Feest and the 1-cup: the 1-cup doesn't slide around.

It doesn't "snap" in place, like this Venom stove and your Ridgeline Foster's can.

I can see why people woukd like it.

To me---when I watched the video for the first time--when I saw how the pot snapped onto stove---it made me think that this is the alcohol version of a jet boil.....

plus I dug it cause right now--the pot I'm using for my stove (pocket rocket) has a tendency to slip off......

im pumped to try it out and will give a report on how it works for me.....

The lids were made for the Imusa 10cm mug. I'm not aware of any other pot that they might fit. I don't have any other sizes.

I only have 4 lids left. That equates to 2 orders remaining in stock. I may have more when I return home in the spring.

Post office is closed today...Happy Presidents Day :-)

There are videos on youtube that show how to turn the aluminum bottles inside out to make the Venom Super Stove. The stove is unique and was created right here on Whitblaze when stovies were abundant :-) The stove is one piece, comes with a 4oz. capacity fuel bottle with turret style dispense cap (cap fits yellow HEET bottle $3.00 value) This stove is a collectors item ;-)

I can no longer find the original Venom cans that had the thicker wall. Now Venom comes in regular flimsy aluminum. I had several boxes of the old ones ready for you Zelph before the divorce but yes, I lost those too!
If anyone knows of another non-alcoholic drink that comes in the thick-walled cans, please let me know. This stove is one of the best ever.

Thanks for keeping me in mind on the bottles. They sure are hard to come by. I have 50+ stoves in process but I'm away from home for the winter months. I'l make the stoves available again in the spring of 2018.

I used a lot of the bottles in the making of the Mega Starlyte Burner aka Companion Burner. It;s great for winter use when dry wood is not available for melting snow for water. Comes with a lid to save unused fuel.

DIY stove era was a fun time here on WB. Life seems to get in the way of fun times but time passes and now I'm back into designing and having fun again. :-) The Starlyte XL3 burner design is coming along nicely.
