Wow, that alone weighs as much as my pot, lid, windscreen, and stove do all together!

Was the problem the fact that I wasn't carrying enough unnecessary stuff?

No, that you weren't sending REI enough of your money.

Not that bad of a solution to gain stability and wind performance.
I looked at that but found this Bu Lin stove on E Bay, about the same weight and price ($25AU)
This is the one I modified to use with the Caldera Cone.

SSR -- that's a nifty device for making a canister-top stove into a remote canister stove. It'll let you use a real wind screen, which will greatly improve your fuel efficiency and boil times. If you combine that adapter with a light stove (like a Pocket Rocket) the whole thing still weighs less than some remote canister stoves.

The only thing it won't do is let you turn the fuel can upside down to get liquid flow -- since most (all?) canister stoves are missing the fuel vaporization tube required for this to work.

Well, when someone posts "problem solved," I want to know what the problem is. Even if he's fifteen, and even if it's his thirteenth post. A couple of days ago he was asking what stove to buy.

If his solution is to buy a $28.00 stove and a $20.00 converter that makes it remote, a better solution might be to buy a remote stove and cut out the extra gear. He could get a Primus ExpressSpider for 60 bucks, or a Brunton Vesta for $47.

I hope that rises to Wags' need for a lack of humor in responses, and doesn't cause him to again be offended on someone else's behalf.

That is a great price if you are in Australia. Shipping kills it to the US. Besides the burner head, the before looks very similar to the Windpro, probably some of the same guts.

I have one of these I got for 15 bucks locally and an Optimus Crux Lite. We bought the remote stand mainly for fun, but it and the Crux lite together weigh 7.2 ounces. I like the remote stand for cooking with an 8 or 10 inch fry pan. But if I am doing a water only trip, just attach it to the can with my grease pot.

While you cannot invert the canister, that's really only needed in the winter. If in the should season you can easily warm up your canister to perform better using a variety of methods.

If you substituted a word for the female sexual organ for the word you used for the male sexual organ it would be obvious to you how inappropriate that comment is. :-?

The converter also allows you to jerry-rig the cannister upside, allowing liquid flow instead of straight cannister pressure. During cold weather, this can be very helpful since internal pressure drops off to nothing. I had considered this piece when it first hit the store where I work.

HOWEVER, when we tried the system out, it damaged the threads on the display model MSR Pocket Rocket. So I'll have to pass on it unless I were using it strictly with a Brunton Stove.

Alternately, if the problem being solved it that sometimes he wants to go backpacking with friends and use a larger pot, where the stability of the stove is an issue (and weight is not), and other times he plans to hike by himself with a smaller pot (and wants a lighter stove than typical remotes), then this does actually solve that problem. Way too vague an original post to tell, though.

Confusion like this often pops up with people that lack a sense of humor. Way to contribute to the thread, though. Good job.

Very good to know. Might be a good match to a stove mentioned by the original poster in another thread -- the Brunton Talon.

Which one is inappropriate on an Internet forum?

A) a humorous posting pointing out that a particular peice of gear is pretty useless

or

B) a personal attack.

I am gonna go with (B) personal attack.

Just another reminder that you should only turn the canister upside down if your stove has a pre-heat tube, like the one on my pic.(post 6)
Even so turn the canister slowly and be prepared for a bit of initial flare (very small on mine)

Hey I have one of these, it helps alot in the winter but I dont bother with it in the summer but I do love it. It has many uses.

And when the canisters get real low you CAN turn them upsidedown.
