I am slightly larger than the average hiker, 6'4'' 325lbs. I have the AT as a section hiker and am having a hard time finding gear. Does anyone have suggestions for clothes that fit the not-so-average bear? Thanks for any input. Waist 44-46 xxl in shirt.

Do you have a pack yet? I have the perfect pack for a bigger guy and I am a fairly average size guy.

I do. Teton Scout3400, 3400 cu. in.. I havce done two moderately long hikes 12-14 miles and it is a great pack. It was about 30-35lbs and was really comfortable. Both hikes took about 5-7hrs and it was very comfortable. But I'd love to hear any suggestions you may have!

I wear the same sizes as you,
Just check the usual gear sites.
I bought from: Sierra Trading Post, Campmor, Campsaver, REI, Eastern Mountain Sports, Prolite Gear, Moosejaw, Basegear, Walmart Big Men's section and Feathered Friends. All online.
Marmot Men’s Zeus Jacket Vapor Blue XXL - Campmor $87.96 UPS delivered yesterday.

Another good option for the big boys are stores better known for hunting - Gander Mountain and Cabelas. I've been very happy with the value on clothing there.

I am 6 ft 2" and 290 lbs and have similar problems. I always check outlet malls when I go past them looking for stuff. Found a bunch of Columbia fleese, rain gear ect 2X & 3 X stuff at Xmas marked down. Right know my problem is trying to find some hiking boots as depending on the manufacture I wear a 14 or 15 size shoe. Shoes are the one item I have to try on as I have large but narrow feet for my size.

Gunner76- i hear ya. I love Merrels and just order them directly. They have a good return policy, but try to find 15's in store! So it is a little rough if the shoe I get doesnt fit right, but for the most part I've been lucky.

Cabelas makes some good quality gear that is not overly expensive and comes in various levels of XL (e.g 3XL) sizes. The equipment and clothing is not the lightest and aimed more at hunting....but some of would work well for backpacking.

Sportsmans Guide has similar inventory/sizes with a large sprinkling of surplus, too.

I was once your size and very satified with most of the REI line of clothing. Since I live in the sticks, I order 2 different sizes online and return the one too big or small. Great return policy.
