Hey guys,
I've heard it's recommended that you look up the state of water sources prior to heading out, and I was wondering where you can find that information. Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been posted a billion times!

Reliable water sources are listed in all three of the major Trail guidebooks that come out annually; this information is also found in the A.T. Data book, another annual publication.

You can examine one of these books On-Line by going to www.aldha.com and checking out the On-Line "Thru-Hiker's Companion".

The aldha's data is pretty weak regarding the availability of water on the PCT.

That is true! :D

I obviously read the post without looking at the name on the thread.

Second that. And the great thing is that AsABat updates the report as hikers pass through, so it's usually very up-to-date. Try to print it out or at least check it out in every trail town. It can save your life--or at the very least save you from carrying too much water.

You can find information about PCT water sources in the Wilderness Press guides, the Pacific Crest Trail Data Book and in my Pacific Crest Trail Atlas (http://www.blackwoodspress.com/pct/atlas/). Yogi also includes information about specific water sources in her book. I third the recommendation for AsABat's water report - in SoCal it's a must have.

Here's some more info about water on the PCT:
