Heading out for a small section hike 10/08/04, starting at Davenport Gap, going to Hot Springs. Does anyone know the condition of that part of the trail-(miltiple blowdowns, major trail erosion, etc) due to recent hurricanes. I know there was heavy flooding in that area. Also, I heard part of I-40 was washed out close to the NC/Tenn. line,,, is that back up & running. If not, what's the best way to get to davenport gap, if heading west on I-40, coming thru Asheville, NC.

I40 is open to Davenport Gap coming from the east. It is down to 2 lanes arround mile marker 4 , due to the "slide".

I'm starting at Hot Springs Oct 4th and heading SOBO to either Fontana Dam or Wesser (NOC). I may run into you on the trail. Best I know now there was some damage, and some major flooding in Hot Springs (I was told Creekside Inn is no more - washed away) and that they are expecting more rain and flooding from the remnants of Jeanne.
