Anyone have experience making their own lightweight rain pants or jacket using silicone waterproofing spray on things like cheap nylon jackets and running pants? Good? Bad? Worth the effort?

It doesn't work. Okay, it kind of works, but any kind of pressure will push the water right thru the fabric.

on the fence and leaning to not worth it.... Why nylon doesn't hold water and woven tight, won't breath or let water threw, unless by capilary action.

Just keep it clean and occationally wash the product. otherwise don't worry about it.

Not worth it. I did read where a guy took some nylon stuff and made it silicone coated by "painting" it with silicone seam sealer cut with some stove fuel.

I tried some camp dry on some nylon wind pants a couple years ago. OK for repelling the water as you go through brush but in a rain storm it was just as wet as the wind pants without the camp dry.

Thanks all for the feedback. Decided to take the not-worth-it consensus to heart and ended up buying the yellow O2 rain pants and jacket on sale instead.
