View Full Version : Snowpack actually good insulator for plants

With this winters' snowpack still covering the ground in so many eastern states for many weeks now it seems odd that could be true.
The snowpack insulates overwintering plants and insects from being damaged by freezing rain and sleet along with sub freezing weather.
I'm not sure how this winter effects the tick and mosquito larvae , maybe an Entomologist can answer that. We could use far less of both of them.

That's why the citrus growers spray the trees with water to protect them when it freezes--the frost insulates them.

We get plenty of snow here in Michigan's upper peninsula, but we still have plenty of ticks here. Sorry. Oh, and plenty of mosquitoes, too.
