is there an address of anything near the trailhead? the ATC doesn't really give an exact location to get directions to. I'm coming from jersey, not at all worried about getting to Georgia but when it comes to traveling on the backroads to get to the trail thats where i'm a little lost.

Are you planning to leave a car at Amicalola Falls State Park? Or is someone dropping you off?

If you are getting dropped off, I would recommend driving in from the Elijay Side. That means coming down I-81 to Knoxville then I-75 to S. of Chattanooga and across on US76. That is the most direct way of finding Springer parking lot on FS42.

Some folks would recommend taking US 64 across from N. of Chattanooga over to Blue Ridge GA, then down to Elijay, but there is a rockslide and that road is closed through the Ocoee River gorge, near the 1996 Olympic kayaking center.

I'm getting dropped off, you think the road will be closed through till the end of march?

So 81 south, to 75 south, to 76 east, and then you said 42, did you mean 52 east?

I'm looking at this on google maps and i cant find 42.

Currently there are 2 road closures due to rock slide I40 at NC mile marker 3 near the TN/NC stateline. And the other is US 64 at mile marker 17 near Little Frog Mtn when entering the Ocoee Gorge.

Either head through Asheville on I26, then US 64 to Ducktown and down to Elijay.

I81/I40/I75 to Dalton GA then cut east on US 76 to Springer.

Or head to Charlotte to Greenville SC then to near Atlanta, and cut over to Amicola/Springer.

The shortest access up Springer on FSR 42 is from Big Creek Road/Double Head Gap Road from GA 52.

There is also a bridge out on Roy Road where you make the right at Stanleys store. If you are coming from Amicalola Falls on 52, you'll make a right on Rackley Road about 1/2 East of Stanleys Store. This will take you further down on Roy road after the outage. On the way back ther is a detour sign so you dont miss your return. Call AFSP Visitors center for more info.
