Walmart just got some really cheap MYOG stuff in. I am talking really cheap.

6' Webbing strap with 1" buckle and slider $1.88
2 sets of 1" buckle and sliders $.58
2 Sets of 2" buckles and sliders $.68
4 sets of cordlocks $.68

That is crazy cheap. They probably aren't the greatest quality, but I bet they are just as good as anything they sell at Joanne Fabrics. To give you a comparison, 1" buckle with no slider at Joanne's is almost $4. 6' of 1" webbing is $4.

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out. I was at Joann fabrics yesterday looking at buckles and webbing. I didn't buy because they didn't have exactly what I wanted but for those prices I might buy just to test the product.

I bought a whole bunch of them, and stayed under $10. Wouldn't trust them on anything real important or weight bearing, but on little or less important stuff....

Shopping in Wal-Mart is an adventure. Between constantly moving their displays around and stocking cheap, interesting crap, I am always kept wondering what's around the next isle...kind of like hiking the AT! :)

Just bought a bunch of the same stuff myself as I am always repairing or modifying my CHEAP gear. I have been having good luck with, Outdoor Products. I hate Walmart but for me they are just down the road and they are affordable.

Looks good.. I won't buy anything at Joanne if I can avoid it.. what and expensive place that is! I upcycle and dumpster dive and when I really have to I hit Walmart..

Yes, I have been looking at that stuff. I might purchase the 6 foot strap.

I have had great results with these. I replaced some buckles on a rifle strap even, and it has handled the weight and the stress of bush-whacking very well.

I know Walmart sources low end stuff, but I have really had good experiences, and honestly, if something does fail to meet your expectations, they don't blink about exchanging or refunding things.

Walmart is always good as the fast food market "because its there" just like Mc Donald's you can't have it all the time... My hope for all of you that read this far - I suggest cottage manufacture... there are lists in WB.

Support them when you can.

Here is one I LOVE Owl. http://www.alpsmountaineering.com/ They have several brands they own, including the Browning camping line.

I have had a chance to order buckles from them to do a diy upgrade on a bag from them. They were so kind and generous I was AMAZED at their customer service.
Nice people who are attentive and responsive.

Just to clarify, Outdoor Products (no to be confused with Outdoor Research) is not a brand owned by Walmart.

It is a mid level brand carried by Walmart, but also by REI and Campmor and about every place that sells outdoor gear.

Not as crazy as REI's but they do offer a lifetime warranty on defects.

Completely agree with this. These are OK, but if you're working on anything important, spend the extra money. The straps are not great (the triglides help) but decent. Don't use for high weight bearing.
