I'm not planning on any long hikes until next year so I still have plenty of time. Just wondering what you thought so far.
Hello Kitty Backpack Walmart $18.84
Scooby Doo 1 person tent Walmart $18.86
Army Surplus canteen circa 1946 second hand .99 cents
Souvenir Bowie type knife. Bought in Gatlinburg $29.95
Sponge Bob Square Pants sleeping bag Walmart $16.78
Boom Box w/ cd player, cassette, am/fm & 24 spare D cell batteries $72.34
Coleman 2 burner stove $79.99
Clothing: Spiderman long underwear $16.99
2 pr. Huskies denim jeans $29.48
3 assorted Hawaiian shirts already owned
1 black leather jacket (I like to look good) already owned
1 pair of Crocs $29.95 ( I figure 1 pr should last a thru and they are comfortable and only cost thirty bucks) Some of the prices for footwear are insane. Did you know you could spend more than $80 for a pair of shoes ?! But I digress. Tell me what you think so far.

Thanks for the tip. I would have looked awful silly opening my 1 1/2 lb Dinty Moores with nothing to cook em in.

Have you thought about snakes. You need to include snake sticks, the poles with the funny hooks on the end. The longer the better. You can also use them as trekking poles.

well I was going to take a Maglite cuz I already had the Dcells but that just might save me a few ounces. Plus I gotta admit it looks cool. A steal for $20

I share this tip only because I am in Australia so no direct competition.
Invest in 2 sets of the Pink Flamingo pegs (8 total, spares are good , just in case) .
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e389/Francophoto/odds/Chickmagnet.jpg

They are the most effective chick magnet I have seen. Peculiarly they also attract the other kind so then it is up to you .
As an added bonus, grizzlies are scared of them. Don't know why, but it is something like the elephant and mouse thing.

FrancoThis is ridiculous - there are no grizzlies on the AT.

I see you have the spiderman long underwear, but I didn't see any other 'bottoms.' You may want to consider the Aquaman or WonderWoman Underoos for when you must wash the Spidey clothes.

Besides, they look and feel great as casual wear on warmer days.

I would think after a long day on the trail you may want to slip out of the Crocs and into a nice pair of Bunny Slippers for sitting around camp in your lawn chair.

My daughter has the Hello Kitty backpack, and I'd worry about having enough room. You may want to consider a larger pack. Since you seem fond of WalMart, I'll keep my eye open for a suitable replacement in your price range. Besides, Hello Kitty is last season's fashion, and by the time you leave, you may want a different look, to not stand out too much on the trail.

I see, someone is already using them there. Bette still use them anyway, just in case they come back.

You'll need to pick up some stereo head phones for the boom-box and your SETI monitoring.

A dutch oven to boil water and prepare the trail stew.

A Radio flyer wagon to help during collection of the fire wood and as a portage cart.

A memory foam matress for a good nights sleep and ground insulation.

Don't forget to get out for some shakedown hikes, to test the equipment.

Well Aquaman sure. But Wonder Woman? What do you think I am? Gay? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Aliens on the A.T. Now I'm really excited. Already have my stove. Think I'll skip the oven. Radio Flyer Wagon is a super idea. I was getting a little concerned with my pack weight but with a wagon I can just go crazy and pack whatever I want to. Memory foam mattress another good idea. I bet they just squish down to nothing when you pack them, however I am looking for the kind that float. I think it might come in handy for fording rivers. Keep that good advice coming.

Stream crossing - perhaps some surplus ribbon bridge material from an Army Navy store? You have the Radio Flyer Wagon already - maximize its full capabilities.

"Scooby Doo 1 person tent Walmart $18.86" I can't find that one online, but people have used the Walmart Ozark Trails Children's tent:

Don't forget an axe. Comes in real handy to chop up firewood, cut down trees to count the rings and see how old they are, and rearrange trail shelters.

I got my Crocs for $11 at Next Adventure "basement sale" in Portland, Oregon.

Fly, or take a train, "slightly used" or "discontinued stock" it will be worth it if they have your size.

Here is an Ozark Trail (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-9-x-8-Dome-Tent/10993395) tent, found at Walmart, however the 5'x4' Kids Dome Tent Blue Camouflage (http://www.walmart.com/ip/5-x-4-Kids-Dome-Tent-Blue-Camouflage/13262106) at $15 is much better than the Princess (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Disney-5-x-3-Dome-Tent-Princess/13262089) tent or the Cars (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Disney-5-x-3-Dome-Tent-Cars/13262086) tent at $20. IMHO.

The blue camo tent is a good idea, bears and boogeymen can not see the color blue, and if some pink flamingos are placed in a 20' circle around the tent, you're doubly safe.

Forget about carrying all that cooking gear and stove. All you need is jerky. Turkey jerky, beef jerky, fish jerky, and vegetarian jerky. You may have to invent that last one, maybe from tofu?

Good luck!

My advice, go with the single burner Coleman stove. Do you really need two burners if you are going solo? Now if there were two of you....

The long Mag-Lite has many purposes, it makes a great club for fighting off weirdos and critters or you can blind them by burning their retinas with the bright light, You could use it to attract attention when you get lost.

Sorry if this has been posted before, but you may want to “Devour the terrain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nM6wfjuirE); You Deserve it! Humiliate your surroundings!”
"Rapid Access Turgid Spring Release Action" really makes difference, but do you have the $?
