View Full Version : Coffee Pot anyone ?

Has anyone tried making coffee with a Heineken Coffee Pot? I know it is a little extra weight to carry, but if your using a hinny can for cooking, it's not much more to throw in the coffee pot also.
It sure works well and just smelling the fresh coffee perk while on a camping trip, sure is great.
After all, why rush through an A T hike, take time to make a pot of coffee every once in a while

I have a picture of it in my gallery. Also, if you go to Youtube and type in heineken pot or hinny pot, all kinds of stuff comes up, including how to build a coffee pot.
Hope this helps.

That's pretty slick. I say bring it. If you decide you never use it, just put it in the mail back home.

I used a Arizona Tea can bottom for the bottom of the coffee pot (stand part), a 3/8" supply line from sink hook up for the tubeing, a tin 4oz for the pot itself, snap rings to hold it all in place except for above the pot (inside) i used a 0-ring, so i could take it out and wash it when needed.
Make a indention with a pipe cutter for a place for your snap rings to grip to keep them in place.

looks like skidsteer's drip coffee (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21381&highlight=coffee) maker is lighter. It's what I use and like.

Skidsteers is neat for sure, I just like to DIY things I guess. Searching something that had nothing to do with hiking got me started in this direction by seeing a penny stove and it got me started on all this A T trail hiking and that is how i found this great site :)

Besides, a home made percolater? Yeah, might be pointless but I've wasted a lot more time on far less productive ideas.

Oh no doubt, it looks like a really neat project. It definately has that "you made that?!" coolness to it. Kudos to OP on a great job done.

Also, if the ziplock containers aren't part of your regular heine kit, skidsteers's loses some advantage.

For me, the key to the skidsteer filter is to use small cone filters and about 4 tablespoons of grounds (I don't measure) for a full heine pot worth. I'm pretty picky about my coffee and maybe it's because everything tastes better in the woods, but I've always thought it made great coffee.

You have my permission to make one and say it was your idea.

Just be careful. Women won't leave you alone. Don't misuse it.

Read up on the awesome AeroPress (http://www.aerobie.com/Products/aeropress_story.htm) -- great coffee, bulletproof, and lightweight.

I like fresh brewed coffee too. I use the coffee tea bags, you use them just like ya was making tea. Maxwell house and Folgers sell them.

Slick.
Caffeine makes me pee. When I pee, I need to drink more water. That means I have to carry more water to drink or risk getting dehydrated. Dehydration causes injuries when your body dries out (Spin the wheel and pick a body part to injure: kidneys, organs, muscles, ligaments, tendons.)
That's why I don't drink coffee when I'm out hiking.

That pretty much sums up why I do not drink coffee either. I used to bring gatorade mix but quit doing that as well. Nothing but water for me.
