I've got an idea for a lightweight creek crossing over-shoe using these;

http://www.fishusa.com/Frogg-Toggs-Felt-Sole-Replacement-Kit_p.html?source=googleps

They are a replacement felt soles for fisherman's waders. They are designed specifically for slippery creek beds. I would like to just step into and wrap around my shoes. Don't need to take your shoes off to cross.

Glue these to the bottom of compactor bags and slip you feet in. Anyone have any ideas along this line, maybe a better choice of wrap instead of a trash bag?

they used to make felt soled booties/strapon things for over your waders. I haven't seen them for years. When I saw the title that's what I thought you were gong to be talking about. Anyway you could, if they still made them use those with bags over your shoes.

It might work. I'd replace the trash bag with a sock of polyurethane coated packcloth http://www.owfinc.com/Fabrics/NylonWoven/PackclothOxford.asp#Nylon Oxford, heavily seam sealed. Or, work out a way to attach the sole to a neoprene bootie.

You would have to come up with a way to keep the bag from slipping around on your foot, which would probably mean laces.

It sounds like you're overthinking a way to commit suicide. The last thing I want when crossing a creek is something that can act like a big sail to pull me under.

Agreed. To me, wet shoes aren't that big of a deal after weeks and weeks of sloshing through rain. I'll just deal with the wet feet.

Nice, but I'm drawing a blank on any glacial fed rivers on the AT.

No, don't do it.
At best you will be posting a "it sounded like a good idea at the time" note. At worst you will not be posting any more notes...

Note that those felt soles are meant to be cemented to your wading boots, not attached with a bit of string

Here is another possible material you could try that is MUCH cheaper. Learn how to fuse plastic grocery bags with an iron. Just do a search for fused plastic bags and you should come up with a ton of tutorials.

I would hazard a guess ... AK means Alaska .... perhaps the glasses need adjusting :)
