Hey i havent hiked the A.T... YET. but I am leaving very soon and i was wondering if there were spots to cliff jump or actually just spots on the trail that are fun to just hang out for the day at and maybe relax by the water for a few days and re-group on all your supplies (within like 5miles of a town would be nice)
If you can think of anything instantly that'd be cool because id like to check some spots like that out.

There used to be a ramp for hang gliders in CT on the trail.
Don't know if it's still there.

Now that's one thing I'll never understand. . .strapping one's self to an over sized kite! Of course many thought I was crazy when I used to jump out of "perfectly good planes."

I've given up most jumping since jumping across a stream a couple of years ago and busting my achillies tendon.

There are two good spots that I know of in Ct. One is near Bulls Bridge which is near the southern border and the other is up at Falls Village near the northern end. I do the jump at falls village but won't do the one at bulls bridge too high and too much of a chance to hit bottom plus I see how much the water can move big rocks in this area during floods.

Both of them are great areas to chill on a warm day. Bulls bridge has the whole float down with the current thing going while Falls Village has a few waterfalls you can sit under and even crawl behind.

Some jump off the Bear Mt Bridge too but normally they have to drag the river to get the body back.

If they would be patient and wait a few days they wouldn't have to drag.

Check with the locals about water levels. Great place to jump, but the water isn't always deep enough to do so.

Yeah true, we did wait till a few locals did it first. Great peace sign on the face of the rock too.

Just remember to FIRST check out the water before jumping. You never know if there are rocks, logs, shallow water, etc... hidden under the murky surface. I'm a Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor, and unfortunately I've seen people getting injured first hand...it's not pretty.

Many locals jump off the bridge in West Hartford, VT ... a day south of Hanover.
