Hi All--

Forum search & Google are failing me.

I'm looking for raw elevation data (preferably xls or txt format) for both the AT & PCT. A couple of people -Mapman & Mr.Parkay- have posted some really nice processed maps, but I'd like to roll my own and crunch some data.

Specifically, I'm looking for Elevation & Mileage (as many points as possible, hopefully at least every 1/4mile) & Landmarks (if you have them). I don't have the ability to process gps files.

PM me, and I'll give you my email address or post a weblink.

Thanks - Frisbee

GuyMott (http://www.guymott.com/atgps.html) has GPX files with elevation data attached to them, what more could you ask for?

Export the GPX into a CSV file and open in Excel for the raw numbers, you can just copy the column with the elevations.

For the PCT, you could also download the gps tracks from pctmaps.com. It also has the elevation data in gpx files.

Solutions above are unfortunately not working for me.

Unless I'm missing something on Mr. Parkay's site, all he has are pdf/gif profile files. I want the raw data.

The gpx files don't have mileage, they have long/lat, which I can't process.

I'm looking for : Mileage (column 1) | Elevation (column 2) | Optional Waypoint (column 3)

Thanks - FF

If you're doing data analysis, shouldn't it be a simple matter of converting lat/long into mileage? Granted, the lines get closer together as you move north, but I suppose you could throw a fudge factor in there until you figure out the right calculations to use.

The Whiteblaze AT Data Base has the mileage and elevation. (7.12 mb)

Basically, I just wanted to accurately figure out my elevation change for each day. I know starting and ending mileage for each day from the PCT BenGo data book. I doubt the lat/lon is going to line up with the data book way points.

I was hoping someone had already generated this data to make my life easy.

There are also KML files to see the PCT on Google Earth. I know it shows the mileage when you hover over the trail, so I'd think that has the mileage built into the data points in the file. I don't have a link, but it should be easy enough to find.

I think that this has been posted above, but here is the elevation profiles that I am using, it's very nice and it's easy to print off. But it's only for the AT, no PCT.

Guys - Thanks, but I didn't find what I was looking for (the raw data in a Elevation/Mile format that corresponds with the data book).

Anyway, it's a moot point - I hit the trail 7am tomorrow. Hiking is much better than talking about hiking, and absolutely beats the hell out of looking at data about hiking.

Agreed. I hit the trail myself in 5 days.
