Any of you know of any campsites that are not on the map or in the trail guide for Carvers Gap to Walnut Mt Road?
Havent hiked this section before. Trying to keep outr sleepy time options open.

Grassy Ridge, water up just past the bypass to the Ridge.
There is a great spot on top of the Humps and a spot when you drop into the trees in between the humps. Its just on the side of the trail, you cant miss it. Doll Flats is a good spot just off of a field that provides meadow camping, or forest camping.

Tons of places in the highlands. Between 19E and Walnut Mountain Road, there are several opportunities to stop along the trail in clearings.

If you don't mind a good walk off trail, there is a small campsite below the Barn Shelter. Follow the road all the way down to the gate and turn out. Walk down the embankment, and you will see an old foundation with a piped spring. Its about .5-.7 from the barn.
There a couple places going up Bishops Hollow to High Point-Buck Mtn. Though water in this area can be iffy. Coming down from High Point to Campbell Hollow Road you are walking behind cemetaries, houses, and near roads. There is one off-trail site in this area, if you follow Campbell Hollow Road east, there is a forest service gate. Follow the gated road (which is old AT) to the old Jones Branch campsite. Upper Jones Falls can be found here if you do some bushwhacking. I would be cautious camping here though, locals ride horses and party through here during warmer months. Its not advertised anymore because of this.
There is Sugar Hollow/Elk River campsite. A blue blazed site before Mountaineer Falls.
There is small well hidden campsite just before Walnut Mtn Road. Heading north after Mountaineer Falls Shelter, you will see that the trail will start to climb up to Walnut Mtn Road from Slide Hollow. If you look toward the right around the trees and weeds, you will see a small creek with a campsite.
